Sally Quinn Declares all Women weak because of Huma Abedin

I saw a posting about Sally Quinn’s July 29th’s opinion column in the Washington Post.  Briefly, let me tell you what prompted this: Huma Abedin has forgiven her husband’s behavior.  Who’s Huma Abedin’s husband?  Anthony Weiner.  Remember him?  He had to give up his Congressional seat because he was sending illicit pictures of himself to women.

Now, Weiner is running for Mayor of New York.  Personally, I don’t care.  Really.  If the people of New York want him as their Mayor, well, that’s between him and them.

Anyway, on July 29th, Sally Quinn apparently cares about Huma’s decision to “stand by her man”.

Though her friends say she is strong and resolute and defiant, sadly she makes all women look like weak and helpless victims. She was not standing there in a position of strength. It was such a setback for women everywhere. (Emphasis mine.)

I don’t want to judge Huma for sticking by her husband. I probably wouldn’t make that decision, but this isn’t my decision to make.  Who am I to make a judgement on someone else’s marriage?  Who is Sally Quinn to say that this is a setback for all women?

I don’t feel that I am any weaker because a woman in New York chose to stay with her unfaithful husband.  I don’t feel that this is a setback to any issue in my life.  If that was all Quinn said, I probably wouldn’t be writing this post.  But, wait, there’s more!

Yet I can’t help blaming Abedin for condoning this behavior and allowing this charade to continue.

Quinn actually blames Huma for Weiner’s behavior. Are you kidding me? Poor Sally Quinn, she honestly believes that a man who has no respect for himself or his wife acts that way because his wife “condones” it. Isn’t that the same as blaming the bartender for serving an alcoholic a drink?

But, even Quinn is not to blame for feeling this way.  I believe that we have slowly began playing the blame game for a long time.  If a man (or woman) drinks too much in a bar, gets behind the wheel and kills someone – blame the bartender and the bar.  If a woman goes out for a night on the town and is raped, blame the woman and not the rapist.  If a young black man is walking home from the store, is followed and approached by a larger and more threatening male and is shot to death; blame the young black man and not the shooter.  Congress isn’t passing any laws, they continue to try to repeal an unrepeatable law and, yet, they blame the President for our ills.  States run out of money because they cut taxes too low, so we blame the teachers and their unions.

We love to lay the blame anywhere except where it should fall.  Shouldn’t we put an end to this?

If your child is failing in school, don’t blame the teacher – blame your child.

If you don’t like where you are in life, while I believe we should have student loans and other aid to help, you are the only person who can make a difference in your life.

If Anthony Weiner takes pictures of his family jewels and sends them to women who are not his wife, he’s to blame – not her.

Let’s show a little personal responsibility, people.

Shoplifting Post Over at Bilerico

Do you read the posts over at Bilerico?

If yes, then you’ve probably seen this one and if no, why the hell not?  They’re short, to the point and very well done.  I found this one (I’ve taken the liberty of putting a couple of sentences to get you started below) and I found it well written and interesting.  Anyway, click the more link to read the whole post over at Bilerico – come on, you know you want to.

I have a friend who steals. More accurately, he’s a friend of a friend, and whenever I see him he always has a story or two of things he’s recently stolen. It’s little stuff. Usually food. He can definitely afford to buy food, so it’s not about need. And I don’t think he gets much of a thrill out of stealing…more

Wake Up, America!

Here’s what I don’t understand about the upcoming elections.

We elected President Obama because he said he would bring us change.  He promised Universal Healthcare and Wall Street Reform.

He fulfilled his promises.  He said he would do it.  He told Congress to do it.  They did it.  He signed them into law.  He even managed to lower taxes for 95% of the population.  He expanded college loans and he put regulations on credit card companies that, not only, make them more transparent in their fees and rate hikes, but stops the ever moving due date.  (Ever been late because your credit card company changed the due date from the 21 to the 18th?  No?  Well, I have.)

President Obama received a country in complete and total shambles.  We had a president before him (and a one before that one) who took the bite out of banking regulation, which led to the Wall Street meltdown that, in turn, has led to Main Street’s demise.

But what those Tea Partiers keep yelling for is smaller government and less taxes.

Well, that’s just not going to happen.  And, it is a crock of crap.

Really – it is.

The deregulation over the last thirty years has led to one of the worst financial meltdowns since the Great Depression.  The lower taxes on the rich has just made them more greedy and has led to companies moving plants overseas, which has led to job loss.

All caused by Republicans.

And, now, every magazine I read, every blabbermouth on TV keeps telling me that my fellow Americans want to put the Republicans back in power.  Aren’t any of you paying attention?  Don’t you know your history?  Don’t you get it?

The Republicans have been running elections on the idea that if the Democrat fails, they win.  It worked under Clinton.  But, in their 12 years of Congressional power, the nation began it’s free fall.  They have caused the jobs to be lost, the banks to fail and the poor to become poorer.

And, they don’t give a crap about you.

Do you think Sarah “You betcha” Palin in her expensive suits and with that $150,000 shopping spree gives a rat’s butt about those of us in the the bottom 99%?

Heck no.  It’s a load of bunk.  She cares about the 2012 election, when she’s planning on running and God help us all if she actually wins.

Do you think Rush “I’m rich and you’re not” Limbaugh gives a crap about America?  No, he doesn’t.  He’s been wishing failure on Obama’s Presidency since day one.  And, you should really keep this in mind, when the President fails, so does the nation.  Limbaugh, Mr. Draft dodger himself, proclaims to be a Patriot, but when you want the nation to fail, you’re a traitor, not a Patriot.

Do you think Glenn Beck cares about you?  No, he does ads for a gold company that is under investigation for ripping people off, so there’s another one who could give a crap about real, hard working Americans.  Further, the man is against Net Neutrality, which means he is simply a total moron or he seriously doesn’t care.

Do you think House Minority Leader John Boehner cares about you?  Well, he doesn’t – he’s calling to repeal the Wall Street Reform and he wants to raise the retirement age to 70, in order to pay for the War in Afghanistan.  Does that sound like someone who gives a rat’s rear end about you or me?

I love my country.  If I wasn’t a lesbian, I would’ve served in the military.  I believe we’re the greatest nation on earth, but if we send just one of those tea party candidates to Congress, then we have truly become a country of non-thinkers.  And, if we turn Congress over to the Republicans, well, it proves that we have drunk the kool aid.

I believe

I am a centralist lesbian who is liberal in social views and fiscally conservative.

I believe that if you work hard, you can achieve the American Dream.

I believe that we were lied to at the start of the War In Iraq and I believe that now we’re in a huge mess over there that will end up causing more terrorism in the world.

I believe that the huge tax cuts for the rich and corporations, that started until Ronald Reagan in the 1980’s, proved to be ultimately bad for our economy.

I believe that we need to make our borders tighter and work on keeping out both illegal immigrants and legal ones.  In this economic crisis, we can’t afford foreign workers to take the few jobs available for American workers.

I believe that without the unions, we would all be working six days a week, without healthcare and without vacations.

I believe that large companies only care about their bottom line and not the people that work for them.

I believe that without high tariffs and high taxes on companies that close American plants to move them overseas, we will remain in this recession and it will only get worse, not better.

I believe that people who only watch Fox News are missing half the story.

I believe that people who only watch MSNBC are missing half the story.

I believe that we could be a better nation if we all just spent more time watching what happens in Washington and our state legislatures and less time watching the train wreck that is Lindsey Lohan’s life and stop paying attention to Sarah Palin.

Speaking of Sarah Palin, I believe she is a “big deal” because the media tells us that she is.  She sells papers, so the couple of million followers she has, appears to be greater.  Fox News having no one else pretty puts her on and the rest of the media goes wild.  I believe her fifteen minutes of fame are up and her base will let her down in November when the tea party Republicans run against mostly centralist democrats.

I believe that the majority of the country are centralists and if they vote in an election, the polarizing ends will lose.  I, also, believe that a lot of people in this nation don’t know what a centralist is.

I believe that if we don’t educate our children in technology and science at a young age, we will remain 4th for technology and probably fall farther still.  We need to educate our people or we will lose this country and no one will have to fire a shot.

I believe that the First Amendment still is and always will be the most important Amendment.  I don’t believe that the Second Amendment really means it is okay for the average person to wear a side arm.  I don’t believe that it makes us any safer.

Speaking of Amendments, I believe that if you asked anyone on the street to name the ten that makes up the Bill of Rights, most people probably couldn’t name more than five.  (I could only name 9 a few days ago.)

I believe that the NRA is one of the worse organizations in this nation.  I was a member back in the 80’s, so I should know.  Any organization that supports armor piercing bullets really only cares about their own agenda and not what is best for the nation.

I believe that if we keep listening to the fringe wingnuts on the right and left, we will fight ourselves into oblivion.

I believe that people who believe the world will end in 2012 need to be pitied. We’ve had a lot of end times and they haven’t happened yet.

I believe that gay people should have the right to marry whomever they want and the country will not collapse.

I believe that people should have the right to make their own decisions about end of life decisions.  I don’t believe anyone has the right to tell them what the decision should be.  I believe that when I’m old, in pain and become incontinent, that I will want to be put down.   I believe that it is too bad doctors can’t just give you a shot, like we do with animals.

I believe that God loves me, but He doesn’t give a rat’s ass about who is president and, He certainly doesn’t give a damn about this country.

Speaking of God, I believe that one nation under God was only added to the pledge in the 1950’s to combat the godless communists.  I believe that it doesn’t matter to most Americans that it is there or not. I believe that if you don’t want to say it, you shouldn’t have to say it.  I, also, love to tell right-wing Christians that it should be removed, just to watch those veins pop out of their neck and their faces to turn red.
I believe that I can be a little shit every once in a while.

I believe that we waste a lot of money on our nation’s drug war.  I believe we should legalize pot and, possibly, legalize cocaine.  I believe that would cause the drug lords south of the border to financially collapse.  I believe it would cause Americans who weren’t good for much anyone to do themselves in (the coke users).  I believe we could tax the hell out of these drugs and pay for healthcare.

Speaking of taxes, I believe that President Obama should allow the tax cuts for the rich to expire next year.  I’m not that rich, so they won’t affect me and they won’t affect most Americans.

I believe that we have a lot of problems in this country and they won’t be solved overnight.  We have a long way to go and we need to work together.

But, despite our differences and our problems, I believe that we still live in the greatest country on earth.

And, I believe I’d like to hear what you believe.  That’s what the comments section is for.

Don’t Leak a CIA agent’s name — You’ll get burned.

Things are not looking too good for President Bush. The day after his choice for Supreme Court Justice backs out, Vice President Cheney’s chief of staff is indicted. I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby then resigned — not fired — but resigned.

Now, according to the news sources I’ve read, Karl Rove is still under investigation. It is this blogger’s opinion that this will be the end of it. I think Mr. Libby has been thrown to the hounds and Rove will never be indicted.

Of course, I, also, thought Harriet Miers would make it all the way to the Supreme Court, so what do I know?

God Bless.
