Republicans Sue the IRS

Below is the email I received from the Republicans this morning. I love the part where they refer to the IRS as Obama’s IRS. Who do they think they’re fooling? Oh, right, their ill-informed followers.

There isn’t an IRS scandal. They were doing their jobs. Apparently, the Republican National Committee doesn’t like the IRS to do its job.

Now, they want to waste our tax dollars to find nothing.

Oh, and it’s President Obama, Reince.

(Someone thought it would be funny to sign me up for Republican emails. I reply back and tell them how wrong they are, but I think I’ve found a better outlet. I’ll post them here.)

Julie,

We are suing the IRS.

Obama’s IRS targeted, harassed and discriminated against tea party and conservative groups because of their values and beliefs.

This is an outrage and an unprecedented abuse of power. Principled conservatives should not be the victims of an administration that allows the IRS to go after its perceived political enemies.

Obama’s bureaucrats tried to silence our voices and deny us our constitutional rights—but we won’t let them. That’s why we’ve been fighting to expose the truth.

We just filed a lawsuit against the IRS, demanding they turn over the documents we legally requested.

Over 226 days ago, we filed a Freedom of Information Act request with the IRS to uncover the truth, but they are illegally stonewalling our legal requests for information.

We’ve had enough of the Obama administration’s denials, delays and deceptions. And we won’t stop fighting until we get to the bottom of this unprecedented targeting scandal.

But to ensure our voice is heard, we need you to speak up. Join us, and thousands of conservatives, in the fight to hold them accountable.

We will not stand for this abuse and we will fight until we get the truth.

Add your name in support of our lawsuit against the IRS.

Thanks,

Reince

To My Gay Brothers and Sisters: God Loves YOU!

I realize that not all of you are Christian, but hear me out anyway.  I was praying the other day on my way into work.  (I do that.)  And, the following thoughts occurred to me.  God doesn’t make mistakes.  God loves me.  God made me who I am.

For a good portion of my life, I have struggled in my relationship with God and being gay.  Right-wing “Christians” will point to all sorts of passages in the Bible as proof that God hates gays.  Just last week, a right-wing co-worker proclaimed that if I am secure in being gay, it must be because Satan has been answering my prayers.  Satan – not God.

And, they wonder why we hate them.

Actually, I don’t hate my co-worker, I pity her.  And, her comment led to a very interesting discussion with my pastor (yes, I attend church – although, I admit that I miss some Sundays).  And, that conversation led to something I believe that God revealed to me while I was praying.  Ready?  Because I’m serious:

God loves us – every single one of us – and He wants us to be happy. On top of that, He wants us to have a relationship with Him and His Son. And – anyone who interferes with our relationship with God is not working for God and they are not taking orders from God – they are doing Satan’s work.

Think about that. I’ll wait. Read it again, if you must.  I’ll even repeat it – if someone interferes with your relationship with God, they are doing Satan’s work.

See, Satan wants our souls.  He has a deal with God.  He can tempt us and if we give in to him, he gets our soul.  BUT, we have to freely give Satan our soul.  I’ve never done that – have you?  Well, if you have, you can get it back, by asking for forgiveness from God.  But, that’s another topic.

See, Rev Phelps from the Westboro Baptist Church – you know, the “God Hates Fags” guy – He’s working for Satan.  NOM – the National Organization of Marriage people – Satanists.  American Family Associations – HUGE SATAN FOLLOWERS.  And, all these groups have something in common – they are very sad and we should pray for them.  They don’t realize that they are working for Satan.  They have been so overtaken by believing in themselves, by their destructive self-righteousness, that they have scales on their eyes.  These people are the modern day Sadducees and Pharisees – you know, those people who were so against Jesus in the Bible and tried to trick Him. They had an answer for everything.  And, they were wrong.

God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son so that all who believe in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life. (John 3:16).

Don’t forget that.

I’m not saying that we aren’t sinners.  We are.  Everyone is a sinner.  But, we’re not sinners solely because we’re gay.  Should we try to live a righteous life?  Well, I can’t speak for you, but I try to do so.  Do I succeed?  Not always.

And, now a quote from Spencer Tracy: “Don’t let the bastards get you down.”  If you have a relationship with God, don’t hide it.  Live it, breathe it and pass it on.  If you don’t, don’t hide from Him.  He loves you and He wants a relationship with you.  Don’t run from Him.  And, don’t let the bastards get you down.  Don’t let the right-wing terrorists separate you from the love of God.  Living in His light is better than living in their darkness.

God Bless!

Was it something I said?

I saw this headline:  Glenn Beck Dropped From New York Radio Station, TV Ratings Fall.  The actual article on Huffington Post shows a different headline, but this is the one from iGoogle.

Anyway, are people finally realizing that Beck is full of crap?

Is it mean of me to do the white woman happy dance?

Glenn Beck’s Special Kind of Crazy

Glenn Beck is a very special kind of Crazy.  He has three outlets for his craziness: TV Show, Radio Show and his website.  The only thing that I have ever heard Glenn Beck say that was even close to the truth is that this nation is a republic.  He’s right, we’re a republic.  However; the rest of what he says would get anyone else committed to an insane asylum.  The man is a total whack job and unfortunately approximately 2 million Americans watch his TV show every day.  His radio show is the third most listened to in the country.  Apparently, there are a lot of Americans out there who are just as crazy as Beck appears to be.

See, I just thought Beck was a harmless crappy entertainer who said stupid stuff just to keep the uneducated, right-wing masses entertained.  But, I was wrong.  People actually believe the crap that leaves his mouth and enters the airwaves.  Why do they believe it?  I don’t know – it’s a mystery, like whether or not Beck’s mother killed herself when he was fifteen or if her drowning was an accident.  I vote for the former, perhaps she knew what kind of an embarrassment her son would turn out to be.

Perhaps, I’m placing too much thought into this.  Maybe, it isn’t a mystery at all.  There was a study recently that discovered that when people are confronted with facts that disprove their own beliefs, they will disregard the facts in order to stand by their beliefs.  Perhaps, Beck’s audience watches him just because they believe what he espouses.  Is anyone else a little scared by this?

Seriously, it worries me that we have started down a path where facts and figures are disregarded.  We’re traveling into a future where people no longer respect those who have an education.  Jesus said, “truth will make you free” and, yet, most people will disregard truths in order to stick to their own beliefs.

I no longer believe that Beck is a harmless schmuck.  Every time someone in this country believes the absolute lies that spew from his mouth, we fall just a little bit farther down the rabbit hole.

Am I alone in this?

What the “Right” Means to Me.

It dawned on me this morning, as I was writing a piece on Net Neutrality, that I throw terms around and it is possible that my readers wouldn’t understand them.  For example, the Right.  I say it quite a bit and it is possible that people could misconstrue whom I mean.

When I say the right, I don’t mean true blue conservatives.  I don’t mean the educated people who can quote William F. Buckley, Jr.  I mean these new right.  Those people who watch Glenn Beck and actually agree with him.  Those people who have Palin 2012 stickers on the back of their cars.  Those people who do not understand the difference between conservative, liberal, socialism and libertarian.  Those people who think every liberal idea is wrong and every conservative idea is right.

You know who you are.

The ones who blame Obama for the mess we’re in because they’ve never taken an economics class and don’t understand how the real world works.

The ones who rally against big government, yet don’t want to lose Social Security and Medicare.

The ones who vote against their own best interests.  The ones who only get their news from Fox News, Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck.

The followers of the American Family Association, the National Organization for Marriage and the Westboro Baptist Church.

That’s who I mean when I say the right.  Not the respectable conservatives that used to have a voice in this nation.  Not the people who know that Reagan and O’Neil would meet in the middle to hammer out legislation.

Breaking News: Federal Judge strikes down Prop. 8

Yes, Virginia – there are good judges who rule based on the actual Constitution of the United States and not based on some outdated idea.

Read the story here.

I’m sure the wrong wing will be out in force claiming that this was an activist judge ruling from the bench.  Apparently, these people have never actually read the Constitution.

Andrew Breitbrat says she’s racist

New Audio Blog and some changes!

WordPress allows phoned in audio blogs. Unfortunately for me, they don’t allow them for self-hosted sites. I’m sure I could set something up and create them at home, but there are times when I get an idea for a blog and I’m not near a computer in order to post it. I signed up for a WordPress.com hosted blog and boom! I’m now able to phone it in. This morning, I posted my first audio blog. Please check it out.

Also, this beautiful rainy morning, you should notice a change in the look of the site.  I made these changes to give all my blogs the same look and feel.  I’ve put up links for the audio blog and online comics.  You’ll be able to easily move from one blog to another.

I hope you enjoy the changes.  The front page of Top Of My Head will have a couple of changes as well before the weekend is over.

Have a great weekend! See you Monday!

The Racist That Wasn’t

Have you ever walked in on a conversation and misunderstood what was being discussed?

Sure you have – we all have missed the point when we don’t hear the full story or are told the full context.

In right wing circles, they are all clamoring to find that Black racist that proves that Blacks hate Whites as much as Whites hate Blacks. They want to support the comments made by Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh to prove that Obama is a racist. The thought that a man who is both white and black being racist is absurd, but there are people in this nation who believe the most unbelievable things. Their own racism shows when they fear that the other side of the coin believes the way that they do.

This desire to find anti-white racism where it isn’t is probably what led to conservative blogger and activist, Andrew Breitbart, to post a “2 minutes, 38 seconds of video clips of a black federal agriculture official saying she didn’t do everything she could to help a white farmer”. He merely found the part he wanted, posted it and watched as our nation – including our White House – lose its collective mind in a mad rush to judgment.

In one day, the black official – Shirley Sherrod – has been forced to resign by an administration who should have dug deeper into the facts. She is villainized by the right wing press, including Bill O’Reily (who is usually a bit more levelheaded). The clip plays every where until levelheads prevail and it is pointed out that the words taken out of context seem racist. However; context is everything and, if you don’t hear Sherrod’s entire speech, you miss her whole point, which is decidedly not racist.

Like the conversation that starts before you arrive.

I’m ashamed that the administration has to backpedal.  Robert Gibbs made a full apology.  The administration should take some of the blame for the mess that is now out there.

But, the media, who jumped on the story like a starving man jumping on a Big Mac, should shoulder the majority of the blame.

Even Glenn Beck, who surprisingly didn’t jump on the story (as far as I can tell), said “What’s happening here is that she’s guilty until proven innocent. They fired her and now they are back-pedaling. There’s no due process here. Doesn’t an American have a right to a fair trial? They have politically assassinated this woman. No one has heard the case for or against her, they just took her out. When did we stop having the right to face our accusers?”

A rare message of reason from Mr. Beck.  He’s right.  The administration went too far, but the media led the crusade against Shirley Sherrod.  And, for that, they should hang their heads in shame.

Birthers? Can Obama Be President According to the Constitution? And, is Joe Biden anti-Christian?

Headline One:

Birthers? Can Obama Be President According to the Constitution?

Have you heard the big fuss being made over just where President Obama was born? I thought this was all resolved during the elections, but I was WRONG wasn’t I? Apparently, 28% or 50% (depending on which blogger you wish to believe) of Republicans believe that President Obama isn’t a natural born American citizen and, therefore, not eligible to be President.

But, I saw this blog post over at the Huffinginton Post written by Chris Kelly and I WISH I had thought of this! The man is brilliant and a bit of a smart aleck. So, check out his post.

Headline Two:

Is Joe Biden anti-Christian?

Saw this over at Huffinginton Post, too. I cannot believe that there is really a “Christian” group who thinks for one iota of a second that saying “Jesus Christ” is hate speech. Now, I know that I try my darnedest to not take the Lord’s name in vain and I know that sometimes I fail. I say silly things like son of a biscuit and Holy Crap. But, that’s getting me off track.

In reality, taking Jesus’ name in vain isn’t a sin. The Ten Commandments only says that you cannot take the Lord’s name in vain and Jesus isn’t God now is He? He is the Son of God, so taking His name in vain is not the samething as taking His Father’s name in vain. Actually, since Jesus considered all of us His brothers and sisters, perhaps, we could take each other’s names in vain. Like, the next time I get mad, I could yell JULIE MARIE! (like my father often did when I was a kid) instead of JESUS CHRIST and then I’d be off the hook for any sinning in that grey area of whether or not taking Jesus’ name in vain is a sin, which I think it isn’t, so it really doesn’t matter and I just made you waste five minutes of your life you’ll never get back.

JULIE MARIE!!!

Hmmm, kind of catchy, isn’t it?

God Bless
